Spooky Season: Let the Haunting Begin! (Part 2: Movies)

Aaand without further ado, here are our top horror movies!

👻👻👻

1. Monster House (English)

Kicking off the list with the OG Halloween-Haunted House movie! Its animated and yes, its for kids BUT it's a must watch! Three kids gather their bravery and decide to pay the haunted house on their street a visit... It's definitely our favorite!

2. Raatri (Telugu)/ Raat (Hindi)

Another OG film... Raat is about Mini (Revathi) and her family who move into a house that is allegedly haunted.

Soon Mini begins to behave strangely...

Revathi's acting is brilliant. Contrary to present day horror movies, Raat has almost no jump scares, but still manages to be scary. The atmosphere and direction are amazing and there's no doubt as to why this movie is a cult classic.

3. Insidious (English)

Hands down the best of the 3!

It's not always the house that is haunted, people!! Insidious is about a Demon that tried to enter the body of a kid who is in a coma. But being the drama queen he is...the demon attracts other ghosts too. Hence the movie.

Jokes aside, the story is quite intriguing and is a pretty good movie to watch if you're down for some scares.

4. Shutter (Thai)

You've probably seen the English one, but its originally a Thai movie (which we are gonna watch soon)! This movie is about a couple and too many pictures and too many hauntings later, the wife finds someone always next to them in the pictures.

The Thai movie is apparently much scarier than the English one, so we can't wait to watch it!

5. Annabelle: Creation (English)

This version of Annabelle has to be the best one there is which involves Kids and Dolls, (both of which are frightening lol)

The prequel to the Conjuring series, this movie gave us shivers. Also shoutout to that one kid in the wheelchair who fights! Kudos to the actor because she was brilliant.

6. Get Out (English)

From the director of Us, this movie is more of a Suspense Thriller than Horror, but is a must for the Halloween list!! It's about photographer, Chris, as he goes to meet his girlfriend's family for the first time. And ofc the family is kinda weird and there's definitely a conspiracy there.... We won't spoil anything in case you haven't watched it, but let's just say the family chose a very *complicated* method of survival ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

The story and acting is phenomenal and we totally recommend it!

7. Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum (Korean)

Okay, so we haven't seen this movie, yet, BUT we have heard nothing but positive reviews. As the name suggests, its about an abandoned asylum which a group of 5 students decide to explore.

The style is similar to The Blair Witch Project, with most of it being in video recordings. We're waiting for this whole pandemic to get over, so we can watch it together!

8. Pizza (Tamil)

One our friends wrote this story for the story writing part of our English exam XD

A pizza delivery guy who doesn't believe in ghosts

(but is actually scared of them) gets into a supernatural situation while delivering pizza to a creepy house...

Also, Vijay Sethupathi is in this movie. Now go watch it.

9. Hide and Seek (Korean)

A movie where the hero goes searching for his estranged brother, and finds out that he's been living in a small building, with strange symbols outside. Soon after, he finds the same symbols around his own apartment...

There's no ghost in this story, but the story is super creepy.
