Our Favorites: Podcasts

podcast /pɒd.kɑːst/ A podcast is an episodic series of spoken word digital audio files that a user can download to a personal device for easy listening.

For some people at home alone, podcasts are a way to not feel as lonely, while for others, its something they listen to before they fall asleep. I usually listen to podcasts while I do chores, or while travelling. They're fun to listen to, and a great way to learn about new things and hear different views on various topics.

Here are some great podcasts worth checking out:

(To make it a little easier, I decided to sort them into three categories; Talk Shows, Stories and Music)

Talk Shows

1. How Did I Get Here? w/ Jae and AleXa

"We live our best lives on the internet, and come out the other side knowing more, but not feeling that much smarter..." Jae (Day6) and AleXa share their views and information they find on the internet about topics like The Mandala Effect, Fast Fashion and my personal favorite, Coffee! Each episode is not more than 30 mins long, and you do end up learning a lot from the show. Jae and AleXa are great hosts, as well and this podcast is something I look forward to every Tuesday.

2. GET REAL

Hosted by BM of KARD, Ashley Choi and Peniel of BtoB, this podcast is all about the highs and lows of adulting. Our hosts talk about their experiences as adults and as idols in the K-Pop industry, and definitely Get Real (hehe), and at the end give their advice to questions from fans. They even had pH-1 and Joan Kim as guests for the past few episodes and will be having Maddox, soon. Can't wait to hear more from this trio!

3. The Tablo Podcast

Where do I even begin? This legendary podcast, hosted by Tablo of Epik High, was something that really helped me get through the stress of my final exams last year. From making the perfect Ramen to his experiences with racism, Tablo has talked about almost everything under the sun. He's also had Jacob Battalon (you might know him as Spidey's friend), Eric Nam and Eddie Nam as his guests! Also, the intro features Tablo's daughter Haru and is the most adorable thing EVER!

4. Just So We're Clear

Hanli Hoefer is not only a great actress, but also co-hosts a podcast! Hanli and Melissa Trew use their platform to talk about Mental Health, Sex Positivity and their experiences with lockdown and quarantine. They've invited guests such as photographer Jana Yar, comedian Shaun Tupaz and astrologer Sarah Thomas, to name a few. Every episode is a whole experience and something I definitely recommend.

Stories

1. Gossip

Gossip is a 12 epsiode soap-opera podcast, written and directed by Alison Raskin, who you probably know from her old Buzzfeed days. It follows Bethany, Mia and Valerie and their 'gossip' they share every week over coffee. Its so well-written and hilarious and something you HAVE to listen to! Also, at the end of each episode, there's the HOT GOSS segment featuring a variety of guests.

2. Deadly Manners

First of all, this podcast has an AMAZING cast; Kristen Bell, RuPaul, Denis O'Hare, Alisha Boe amongst many great others. Second of all, its a murder mystery! We have a dinner party with elusive guests and a creepy butler, trapped in the midst of a blizzard. Naturally, this is the perfect time for murder. The host, Veronica Billings, (Kristen Bell) decides to investigate and find out who the murderer is. Overall, a great series and a must-listen for fans of murder and mayhem.

3. Radhe Govindha

Where my Chai Bisket fam at??? Aside from creating some amazing content, Chai Bisket also has this little gem on their YouTube Channel. 8 episodes long, its about the Narrator and his paranormal experience in an old bungalow. Its completely in Telugu, and the narration and story are hauntingly addicting.

Music

1. K-Pop Daebak w/ Eric Nam

The first podcast I ever listened to and is the reason I'm writing this post, K-Pop Daebak is, literally, DAEBAK (amazing). Every Monday, Eric Nam updates us with the latest music in K-Pop and also shares his experiences as an idol. He also has a bunch of awesome guests in his Catching Up segment; including Jamie, Nikchun(2PM), Denise (Secret Number) and most recently, Jacob, Kevin and Eric from The Boyz. This podcast an awesome way to find new music and artists.

3. Maed In India

My most recent discovery, I found this podcast when I saw Laxmi Bomb was featured on it! Mae Thomas hosts this incredible podcast where she plays some awesome music and introduces her listeners to some underrated but talented musicians. A great podcast to listen to if you're on the hunt for fresh music.
