It's Over but It's not Okay - PBIO Final Review

When the first two episodes of It’s okay to be not okay or Psycho but it's Okay were out, we were so excited for the rest of the series. We hoped it would continue to be as exciting and interesting as the first two episodes, and surely, it didn’t disappoint, if not the next episodes were much more intriguing than the previous ones.༼☯﹏☯༽

The series had just come to an end and it was one of the best series we saw. We would definitely recommend it. If you haven’t seen it, you are missing out on a very good series. It touches upon various sensitive topics such as mental health, disabilities, and how society views these things. Also, it covers many genres (romance, mystery, comedy, self-love, growth, etc) while balancing all of them perfectly.

All the actors played their characters so well that seeing them elsewhere seemed surprising (cue to Sang-tae in Good Detective). The casting is so well done. The trio were so much fun to watch every time, and the way they helped each other and resolved their misunderstandings was heartwarming. Of course, not to forget their friends, they were soooo sweet. Most importantly, each character's growth was so well laid out and at the end of the drama, all the characters (including the patients) ended up in a better and beautiful version of themselves. For once, it was very satisfying to see the stories of all the characters wrapped up well (usually, in many dramas some side-stories tend to be forgotten).

Each episode was themed as a story, relating the happenings in that episode to the story. Isn’t that just so amazing ? Can’t forget the animations and drawings of those stories, they were so beautiful. Never thought animations could be so creepy till I saw this drama (if you know which story I am referring to).

Also, let the fangirling over Moonyoung’s styling begin. She was just wow. Seo Ye-Ji carried all beautiful and interesting dresses with such grace.

Moving on to the storyline….

“To make the people around me happy, I need to be happy first. So, being selfish isn’t necessarily a bad thing. If it’s too hard, just think about your happiness.”

There are more quotes but this was the best out of them. Love yourself…..aren’t we hearing this a lot? Did you say that to yourself? With no doubt and just straight out, do I love myself? I like me, more than anyone?

The message from this drama was partly about self love, that it was okay to be selfish for yourself from time to time, to do what makes you happy, accept your flaws and insecurities.

***Mild spoilers ahead*** (☼Д☼)

Character growth in this show is shown perfectly, how our “Empty Can Princess” came to love and accept others, the “boy who hid under the mask” becomes the third wheel between besties and the “boy who hid under the box” becomes someone who is needed.

Every episode has a story setup that highlights the characters' relation with one other. It showed how ill fated Moonyoung and Kangtae’s relation was, but they overcame that. They learned to cope with their fear and struggles of the past.

Sang-tae who closed himself off to the world, who only needed his little brother but didn’t realize in what way he could be there for his brother and didn’t know how to sometimes just let Kang-tae be. His priorities were based on his fear of the butterflies. It was a trauma that he never got over and the doctor’s effort to make Sang-tae face his fears was the best part. But once Sang-tae was out of the box, out on his own, he became a character that made us smile like a cheshire cat.

Kang-tae, Kang-tae, Kang-tae, suppressing himself for so long, he felt that he wasn’t being himself when he did something he wanted, such as oddball. Moonyoung made him realize how much he was missing out on being tied to his brother. Moonyoung gave him the initial push, to give himself more time and love than for others. “I like me more”, was what he said. That was his reply for the forever standing question of who do you like more? He was finally free, wasn’t he? So why was he dead drunk when he didn’t receive the attention? I laughed so hard!

Moonyoung was such a unique character. At first she was just a badass character for the audience, but later it is revealed that she actually had ASPD and wanted to be rescued from that horrible cursed castle and her mom (who haunted her the entire time). The way she turned from a cold-hearted person to such a kind lady. And the murder mystery of the witch? Who knew?! Like maybe, it was just a thought (for a laugh) but when it became reality, just wow.

Let’s just go with her real name, Do Hui-jae was obsessed with her daughter, Goddammit woman, she ain’t a robot. She controlled all of Moonyoung’s emotions but Kangtae messed up her plans. A mere expression of “You daughter needs some medical assistance” snapped hui-jae to kill Kang-tae’s mom. That lady needs medical attention (hospital!!!!).

Kudo’s to the director and the writer who gave us a drama that will forever be a visual treat and, certainly dialogues which were heartwarming at times and meme-worthy at times, were our fav. “I love you! I love you! Why are you running away when i’m saying i love you?”

P.S Honourable mention to our favourite character, the DEER, how is it always at the right place at the wrong time?
